BUT there is a ton of stuff to do that may not cost that much so you maybe able to cut cost here. For me the cigar bars and are nice down time between the last talk of the day and some of the parties at night. Once again this cost me about 20-30 a day depending on what your doing. Leisure: This includes EVERYTHING but food, hotel, and gifts for people back home. I spent anywhere from 40-60 dollars a day on food. I would leave the convention area for lunch as stated else where the food was crap for the price. I didn't go buy food off site and just ate at restaurants. Find one person to split that with and you half it to 207 plus tax and fees.įOOD: This one is the tricky one for me since I used both cash and card. That works before taxes and fees to 414 for 6 days. IF you stay at one of the hotels on the room res link on the defcon site the cheapest is 69 a night for a king or 69 for 2 queens. And as an added bonus, you end up with more friends! :)Īlright so Im going to give you the best rundown that I can. Friends who've been coming for a while can also point you at cheap but good restaurants, show you walking shortcuts, etc. Lots of people drive or rent a car and can give you a ride, or will split a Lyft with you, or go halfsies on a high-price food item large enough to share. :) There's a lot of awesome stuff in the vendor areas.Īlso, while you're there, do your best to make friends. I'd personally try to avoid the places you can stay for $50 a night - aside from the sketch factor, they're likely to be far enough off-strip that rides to/from the conference will cost you more than you're saving.īudget an extra $100-$200 (in cash!) for swag/goodies/miscellaneous, unless you have REALLY good impulse control. Lots of people group up to cut costs, and you probably won't be spending much time in your room anyway. Stock up on granola bars, sandwiches, and a refillable water bottle, and use those to get through your day on the convention floor (or, if you have time, walk to a food court somewhere where your $15-$20 meal will at least be edible).ĭefinitely ask around to try to find someone to share a room with. $20 will get you the most disgusting damp hot dog-shaped thing you will ever choke down, and if you want anything to go with it it's another $5 for 12 oz of soda, $5 for 1 oz of chips, etc. You can stock up on cheap, no-refrigerator/no-microwave foods like granola bars, applesauce, cups o' noodles, makings for PB&Js, etc there without having to haul them around in your luggage.ĭon't pay for food on the convention floor. There's an Albertson's grocery store, a Target, and a drugstore a couple miles east on Flamingo street - probably a $10-$20 Lyft round trip. Use a ride-share app (I'm partial to Lyft myself) to get around - taxis are expensive.
